Effective Tips for  Marketing and Promoting your Political Campaign


One of the most significant things you can do to achieve success with a political campaign is to spread awareness of your message. The best way to do this is to have an effective marketing plan that will put you in front of the people you need to reach. These tips will show you how to effectively market your political campaign.

 

First and foremost, you’ll want to build a strong marketing team. Regardless of whether you have a big budget or a small one, it’s good to have a strong marketing team on hand. Your team can come from different backgrounds such as marketing professionals, volunteers, local community members, or interns.

 

This article is not for those who spent hundreds of thousands of dollars for their political campaign, but for those who need to spend less money and still create a memorable and victorious campaign. The tips provided in this article will help make your campaign more efficient and memorable and put you on the path to victory. Political campaigns need to reach potential voters in a number of different and creative ways. Here are some of my favorite marketing and PR techniques for reaching out to your audience:

 

Hire A Campaign Manager

Make sure you pick a campaign manager and add them to your team. This person will be the point of contact for any media inquiries and will make sure the liaisons to digital, marketing, and press are all coordinating.

 

Create Eye Catching Signage

One of the best ways to have your campaign seen is with Political Signs and Banners. Our attention spans are generally very short, especially when we’re scrolling on the internet, but there’s something about physical prints – flyers, posters, vinyl banners -that really seem to catch the eyes of passersby. Make sure your messaging is short and sweet — a punchline attracts half the attention, while the other half is design. Consider commissioning the work of a local graphic designer.

The internet has changed the way people engage and participate in the political process, increasing opportunities for targeted marketing to a highly specific audience. To succeed on the internet during a political campaign, you must be strategic in creating and distributing your content.

Social media platforms provide great opportunities for political campaigns. A 2016 Pew Research Center study found that 73% of American adults use Facebook and 51% use Twitter. Both social networks are crucial for political campaigns because they allow you to target users based on their interests, gender, age, and location.

 

Outreach Aids Marketing Campaign

The vast amount of data generated by voters through social media activity is valuable to political campaigns, allowing them to micro target their messages to specific audiences. Reaching out to specific communities through relevant hashtags is an effective way to get your message in front of the right voters in your district or state.

 

Have a Website

Create a political landing page that provides information about policies, issues, and your background. This serves as your hub, something for people to keep coming back to. It also has a donate button on it that goes to ActBlue (or whatever fundraising website you are using) – Gather email addresses wherever you can. Talk to people at events, hand out flyers, put up signs, get people to sign up for the email list. I’ve been surprised at how many people will actually give me their email address. I’ve had as many as 15% of the people at small events sign up! Collect them on the website, too. You want a long list of supporters for when you need it later in the campaign.

 

Get The Word Out in Your Locality

Go to every possible public event in your area and hand out cards with a short summary of your campaign goals (keep it under two sentences), your name, details about how you can be contacted or which website people can visit for more information. Best places to find events: Chamber of Commerce, City Hall, religious gatherings, libraries, town halls, elective offices, political events.

 

Plan Out Your Media Appearance via Interviews: 

If you’re planning on doing any interviews with the local press, or even appearing on television or radio, you want to make sure that all the proper agreements are in place and all the questions have been answered. Make sure that you have copies of your materials available for the media, so that you can hand them out if needed. Also make sure you have a copy of any press releases or talking points that you might need in case any questions come up during the interview
