Images Pop Up Online Revealing San Diego’s White Privilege Wringing of Teachers

So far as I can tell, public education’s gone the route of news: It’s replaced objective information with subjective political messaging.

The latest trending alternative to reading, writing, and ‘rithmetic: a whole new set of R’s — racial revolution.

Apropos, the San Diego Unified School District’s making moves.

Reportedly, that is — the information below is only alleged.

On Thursday, City Journal reporter Christopher Rufo posted to social media screenshots of leaked documents from the district.

The info at issue was from racial awareness training being forced upon teachers in the association, and it’s not exactly complimentary to people wrapped in fairer skin.

Christopher put it this way:

“SCOOP: San Diego Unified School District is forcing teachers to attend ‘white privilege’ training, in which teachers are told ‘you are racist’ and ‘you are upholding racist ideas, structures, and policies.’ The leaked documents from the training session will shock you.”

And here’s something you don’t see every day — you know that old song “This Land is Your Land”?

Well, it ain’t.

Here’s Chris:

“The training begins with a ‘land acknowledgement,’ in which the teachers are asked to accept that they are colonizers living on stolen Native American land. Then they are told they will experience ‘guilt, anger, apathy, [and] closed-mindedness’ because of their ‘white fragility.’”

The acknowledgement lays it out:

“We acknowledge that we meet on stolen land, taken from Indigenous peoples.”

That distinction, of course, isn’t aptly applied — experts believe American Indians came from Asia via the Bering Strait.

Continuing:

“I am speaking to you from Kumeyaay land. We must acknowledge the hidden history of violence against Indigenous peoples in an effort to move towards justice.”

Per Christopher’s images, SDUSD makes sure to address “white fragility.”

Bite these bullet points, including a quote from $20,000-for-a-3-hour-workshop author Robin DiAngelo:

  • Emotions (racial stress) that are stirred when making white people consider racial realities
  • Guilt, anger, apathy, frustration, closed-mindedness, defensiveness
  • Prevents us from having racial dialogue
  • We haven’t had to build racial stamina from rarely having conversations about race
  • Turns race into the “R” word
  • “It is a powerful means of white racial control and the protection of white advantage” (DiAngelo)

Under “Norms and Agreements,” the program instructs participants to speak their truth and “listen to others [sic] truths,” as well as to “expect to experience discomfort.”

Also, for the love of Pete:

“Avoid and point out coded language.”

And here’s a delight for those pursuing a career in education, as described by Christopher:

“After watching clips of Robin DiAngelo and Ibram Kendi, the trainers tell the teachers: “you are racist,” “you are upholding racist ideas, structures, and policies,” and that they must commit to becoming “antiracist” in the classroom. They must submit to the new racial orthodoxy.

So what does all this have to with school? I suppose that’s up for debate. But man — those whites are quite the scourge:

“The teachers are told that they are part of an oppressive white power structure.”

According to San Diego, this is what white privilege bestows:

“My ability to THRIVE, not just survive in this country is being preserved at every level of power without me having to do anything at all. I don’t even have to vote.”

So goes education, which leads me to a question: Once every school in America’s been thoroughly rung like a rag by the huge hands of anti-racism, continuing our focus away from traditional academics, what’s the next big thing?

Whatever it is, it’s sure to be a humdinger.
