Former President Barack Obama recently joined the chorus of progressives who are whining about allegations of voter fraud after spending four years disputing the validity of the 2016 election. Obama took the company line, claiming that any claim of malfeasance related to the election is completely unfounded.
During an interview on CBS’ “60 Minutes” that is set to air on Sunday, the former president slammed Republican lawmakers for “going along with “ President Trump’s accusations of voter fraud. He warned the GOP that they are supposedly on “a dangerous path.”
He also claimed that Trump’s voter fraud allegations “appear to be motivated in part because the president doesn’t like to lose and never admits loss.”
A preview clip for the episode shows Obama saying:
“I’m more troubled by the fact that other Republican officials who clearly know better are going along with this, are humoring him in this fashion. It is one more step in delegitimizing not just the incoming Biden administration, but democracy generally, and that’s a dangerous path.”
Almost every single left-leaning establishment media and also Fox News, which seems to be morphing into another version of CNN, have called the presidential election for former Vice President Joe Biden despite the fact that it is being contested in court. The Trump team is alleging voter fraud in battleground states such as Michigan, Georgia, and Pennsylvania.
The majority of GOP lawmakers, with a few predictable exceptions, have backed Trump’s legal challenges to election results in various states. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) recently gave a speech on the floor of the Senate in which he affirmed that the president is “100 percent within his rights [to] weigh his legal options.”
The Trump campaign has made a slew of accusations and filed a number of lawsuits in various battleground states alleging widespread voter fraud. On Tuesday, he went after Dominion Voting Systems, a Denver-based company that provides voting machines. The president claims that its machines removed a total of 2.7 million votes for Trump, 221,000 of which were allegedly removed in Pennsylvania. The company has denied the allegations.
Trump’s team has backed off of some of the legal challenges they filed earlier. They dropped their lawsuit in Nevada and have recently pulled their legal team out of Arizona. However, challenges in the three main battleground states remain.
Obama’s protestations are patently absurd given the fact that his administration, along with Hillary Clinton’s campaign, set the stage for the debunked Russiagate narrative, which the left used to dispute the validity of the 2016 election. Except, in this case, they stretched that false narrative into a four-year smear campaign that resulted in taxpayers spending over $30 million on a special counsel investigation that found no evidence of collusion between the 2016 Trump campaign and the Russian government.
The former president should take several seats and spare us the false outrage instead of weighing in like a hypocrite on Trump’s disputing the 2020 election. If the American public can be dragged through a Russia hoax for four years, he and his cronies can wait a few extra weeks to allow voter fraud investigations to continue.
