Joe Biden did what Hillary Clinton didn’t do in 2015 by visiting Wisconsin on Monday to give a speech at the Aluminum Foundry in Manitowoc. According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the stop was an important one for the Biden campaign considering the “county … backed Barack Obama for president before swinging to Trump in 2016.”
During the speech, Biden jabbed at President Trump numerous times in an effort to appeal to the audience. At one point, he revived the Atlantic hit piece on Trump that was published earlier this month to “prove” Trump doesn’t respect those in the military who made the ultimate sacrifice (bolded emphasis added):
“And all the things that Trump has said and done, nothing is more offensive than the way he’s spoken about many of you and the brave women and men who served the nation in uniform. Those [who] have given their lives in service to this nation. It’s been confirmed by every outlet that he referred to them as losers and suckers. That’s what Trump calls those who served and made the ultimate sacrifice.
Let me tell you something, my son Beau served and volunteered to go to Iraq for a year. Won the Bronze Star, came home decorated, came home with stage 4 glioblastoma and died of cancer. He wasn’t a loser. He wasn’t a sucker. He was a patriot. And all those people with whom he served, volunteered, were patriots as well. Just like your sons and daughters and many of you, your moms and dads.”

Saying that “it’s been confirmed by every outlet” is an outrageous lie. Not ONE outlet has confirmed the full Atlantic story. Two, the Associated Press and Fox News, say anonymous sources confirmed “parts” of the story, but not the most explosive charge that Biden referenced about “suckers and losers” has not been confirmed by any news outlet.
In fact, numerous former and current officials (I think at last count around 30 people?) who were either at the meeting where the 2018 trip to the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery near Paris was discussed or who otherwise have close ties to those who were have flatly denied the story that Trump called American military war dead “losers and suckers”, and say he wanted to take the trip.
This includes former National Security Adviser John Bolton, which is pretty significant considering there is no love lost between Trump and Bolton.
