Here’s Why Democrats Are Demanding Racial Data Related To COVID-19 Deaths

Demand for racial data concerning COVID-19 infections and deaths has been arising on the progressive left as the nation continues to deal with the spread of the disease. High-profile Democrats are urging the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Johns Hopkins Medicine to gather and release the racial breakdown of those afflicted with the virus.

Recently, five Democratic lawmakers sent a letter to Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar asking for comprehensive data regarding the demographics of those infected with the illness. Sens. Kamala Harris (D-CA) and Cory Booker (D-NJ), along with Rep. Robin Kelly (D-IL), signed the letter.

“Any attempt to contain COVID-19 in the United States will have to address its potential spread in low-income communities of color, first and foremost to protect the lives of people in those communities, but also to slow the spread of the virus in the country as a whole,” the lawmakers wrote.

There can be no doubt that these individuals calling for the demographic breakdown of those infected are deeply concerned for the wellbeing of minorities. The nation must ensure that certain racial and cultural groups are not disproportionately affected by the virus, and those asking for the data will use it to ensure equality.

Just kidding!

Color me cynical, but the Democratic politicians and members of the corporate press couldn’t care less about ensuring minorities are not more susceptible to diseases like COVID-19. In fact, if they were provided with this data, what are they most likely to do with it?

If you guessed, “Why, they’ll use it to attack Trump,” you’re dead right. Not only will they turn these numbers into a political weapon against the president and anyone who leans right, but they will also use it to promote the intersectional agenda.

The oppression Olympics crowd has struggled to retain any semblance of relevancy in the age of COVID-19. Indeed, they were so desperate for attention that they resorted to pretending that anyone who referenced China when discussing the coronavirus was an anti-Asian racist.

There can be no doubt that Democrats and their close friends and allies in the press will use this data to paint the Trump administration as racist. It’s easy to see how they might do this, right? CNN’s Don Lemon will go on a broadcast and say something like, “The Trump administration’s handling of the coronavirus – which disproportionately impacts people of color – is abysmal, inept, and racist and stuff.”

Remember what they did with President George W. Bush when Katrina happened? You can bet that the corporate media and their stooges in government are salivating at the thought of using this virus to keep smearing the president as a raging bigot.

To be fair, I’m sure there are plenty who sincerely want to see if there are disparities in the number of deaths to identify the reasons why. So far, the virus is affecting cities with large black and Hispanic populations like Milwaukee, New Orleans, Detroit, and Chicago. Of course, New York City still has the highest number of infections and deaths.

Several factors could make minority communities more vulnerable to COVID-19. Members of these groups are more likely to have medical conditions like asthma, diabetes, and hypertension, which would make them more susceptible to the deadly effects of the virus. The fact that they are less likely to be insured or receive paid sick leave certainly does not help either.

However, it is unlikely that the Democrats will make this data public even if they manage to obtain it. Their demands are nothing more than virtue signaling and the hope of more race-baiting.

The reality is racist progressive policies at the local, state, and federal levels have placed minority communities in danger. A virus cannot be racist, but government policy can certainly place specific groups of people in a position where they are more likely to succumb to the infection. The Democrats will certainly not wish to have that particular conversation, right?
